
Since 1988, the Royal Canadian Mint has minted the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf silver bullion coin, consisting of 1 troy ounce of silver. The coin has the highest face value of all international silver bullion coins, at $5 (CDN). In addition, the coin is the purest one-ounce silver coin produced by any government in the world, with a purity of 99.99%. The standard among other bullion issues, is 99.90%.
The coin is adorned with one of three effigies of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side. Versions include a young head, a middle-age head and an older head (shown here).

In 1998, the Royal Canadian Mint minted a Titanic Silver Maple Leaf $5 coin, in quantities less than 26,000. This special issue coin was produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking. It displays a privy mark of a Titanic ship underneath the left-hand side of the maple leaf. It is believed that the entire production of the Titanic issue was sold to a single coin dealer. However, it is possible for collectors to find this rare coin through select, reputable dealers.
